Applications

What qualifications do I need for my Masters course? Grey

You'll be able to find the qualifications you need for your chosen Masters course on the relevant course page. Generally, you’ll need to hold an undergraduate degree (a BA or a BSc) or international equivalent.

What if I don’t have the required qualifications? Grey

Don’t worry if you don’t hold an undergraduate degree. If you have appropriate professional experience in your chosen subject area, you may be able to apply based on your experience. Your application will be considered and accepted at the Course Director’s discretion.

How do I apply? Grey

To apply for our online master’s courses, head to our Apply now page and scroll down to the ‘Choose your course’ section. Click the ‘Apply now’ button for the course you want to join, and you’ll be taken to the University of Hull application portal.

Then, click ‘Start your application’, and you’ll be invited to create a new user account (on the right-hand side of the page). Enter your personal email address and set a password to create your MyHull account. Once you’ve done this, you can start, save, and resume your application at any time up until the deadline date.

If you’ve got all your required documents and personal statement ready, it takes around 5-10 minutes to apply online. For a step-by-step breakdown of the entire application process, head to our How to apply page.

Fees and funding

How can I pay my course fees?

We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for you to pay your course fees. 

You can make payments online, over the phone using a credit or debit card or by bank transfer. Please visit our How to pay page for more information. 

Do you offer payment plans? Grey

Yes, we do. You can choose to pay for your course fees in 6 instalments, which are spread throughout the duration of your studies. Otherwise, you can pay your fees in full before you begin your course.

As an online student

What will my student status be? Grey

As soon as you're accepted onto any of our online Masters courses, we welcome you as a fully-registered student with the University of Hull.

This means you'll be eligible for a University of Hull student ID card, which provides physical proof of your status as a student with us. You may also be able to use it to access  a variety of student discounts. 

What will be on my degree certificate? Grey

When you graduate from your chosen online master's course, your degree will have the exact same academic weight as that of an on-campus student. 

The degree certificate you receive from the University of Hull will be identical to those received by our on-campus students and won’t include the word ‘online’. 

Are your courses recognised internationally? Grey

What equipment/software will I need? Grey

We've made studying online with us easy, so you can focus on your studies without needing to worry about complicated or costly technical requirements.

All you need is regular access to a computer or tablet with an internet connection.

To get the most from your studies, your computer should have

  • a web browser (the latest version of Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer) which must accept cookies and has JavaScript enabled

  • screen resolution of 1024x768 or above

  • sufficient bandwidth to download documents of at least 2MB 

  • a word processor that reads Microsoft Word format (.doc)

  • a PDF reader

  • a media player that plays MP4 files

How will I be taught my online course? Grey

You’ll learn through a flexible, fully online experience designed to fit around your life. Each week, you’ll explore new topics through resources such as videos, podcasts, articles, and more. You’ll join live webinars (or watch replays of them), take part in weekly discussion forums, and connect with tutors and peers worldwide.

All your learning materials will be made available to you via our virtual learning environment, Canvas. You’ll also receive ongoing support from our student adviser team, expert tutors, and our Careers and Employability team.

How much time will I need to spend studying? Grey

Everyone learns at a different pace, but on average, you should expect to spend around 20-25 hours per week studying. A typical week as an online student is designed to be flexible, so you can study at times that suit your lifestyle. You might find yourself studying on weekday evenings, catching up on reading during lunch breaks, or setting aside time on weekends. Some students even make use of quieter moments during work shifts to watch webinars or complete assignments. The key is finding a rhythm that works for you and fits around your personal and professional commitments.

You’ll explore a new, bite-sized topic each week through resources such as videos, podcasts, reading material, and interactive activities. You’ll join optional live webinars, take part in tutor-led discussion forums, and submit assignments via our virtual learning environment, Canvas. You’ll stay supported throughout by your tutors, fellow students, and our student adviser team.
