# Programme Leader Award

Recognising emerging writers & supporting creative talent

At the University of Hull, we believe in nurturing new creative voices and supporting ambitious writers on their journey to success. That’s why we’re introducing the Programme Leader Award - an exclusive opportunity for applicants to our [MA Creative Writing](https://online.hull.ac.uk/courses/ma-creative-writing) to receive a tuition fee discount based on the quality of their writing submission. <https://online.hull.ac.uk/programme-leader-award#terms>

## What is the Programme Leader Award?

This award recognises outstanding writing talent among applicants to the MA Creative Writing. By submitting your application before the early application deadline (28th April 2025), you will automatically be considered for:

## Why study the MA Creative Writing?

If you have a passion for storytelling, creative expression, and refining your craft, the MA Creative Writing at Hull is designed to help you:

## How to apply for the award

All applicants to the MA Creative Writing who submit their application and a creative writing sample (fiction or non-fiction, 1,500-2,000 words) by 28th April 2025 will be automatically entered into the award selection process.

- **Application deadline:** 28th April 2025
- **Winner announcement:** W/C 19th May 2025

If you do not wish to have your writing sample considered for the award, you must notify your Student Recruitment Consultant when submitting your application.

## What happens next?

- All eligible writing samples will be reviewed by the Programme Director, [Dr Chris Westoby](https://online.hull.ac.uk/ma-creative-writing/academic-team/christopher-westoby).
- The winner and runners-up will be announced via email W/C **19th May 2025**.
- Award recipients will receive their tuition fee discount upon accepting their place on the programme and successfully completing their first module.

## Terms & Conditions

**1. Eligibility**

- Applicants must submit a complete application for the MA Creative Writing at the University of Hull before 28th April 2025 to be automatically considered for the award.
- All applicants must include a 1,500-2,000 word creative writing sample.

**2. Award Details**

- 1 winner will receive a 50% tuition fee discount.
- 3 runners-up will receive a 25% tuition fee discount.
- Discounts apply only to tuition fees and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Discount is standalone and cannot be used in conjunction with any other discounts tuition fees e.g. Refer a Friend.
- Discount is applied to the overall course fee of £10,600 and is awarded after the winning students(s) successfully complete their first module of study.

**3. Selection Process**

- Submissions will be reviewed by the Programme Leader.
- Selection is based on writing quality, originality, and potential.
- The University of Hull is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the Programme Leader Award process. All applications will be evaluated fairly based solely on writing quality, originality, and creative potential, without regard to age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Writing samples will be assessed using standardised criteria. We value diversity of thought and expression, and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

**4. Notification & Acceptance**

- Winners will be notified via email W/C 19th May 2025.
- Winners must confirm acceptance within 7 days or the award may be reallocated.

**5. General Terms**

- If an applicant does not wish to be considered for the award, they must notify their Student Recruitment Consultant when submitting their application before the 28th April 2025 deadline.
- Any applications received after April 28th 2025 will not be considered for the award.
- The University of Hull reserves the right to amend or withdraw the award at any time. The award is valid only for May 2025 entry and cannot be deferred.
- Winners and runners-up consent to having their names published on the University of Hull Online’s social channels for promotion, along with quotes.
