Dr Arif Mahmud is a Lecturer in Education Studies and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Arif graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London) with a BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies.

After graduating, he obtained a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and taught in various higher educational institutions around the world. In 2013, he completed his MA in Education (Psychology). Arif completed his PhD in 2018, with his thesis focusing on the role of emotional intelligence in the development of adolescents’ social and emotional abilities and academic performance.
