Find out more about the latest face-to-face event for MA Creative Writing students, where they will hear from published authors.
The University of Hull Online MA in Creative Writing students will come together from the 25th-27th August for their latest face-to-face meet-up.
Students will gather at the University's campus for a series of workshops, talks and other sessions designed to enrich their writing knowledge and practice.
Sessions will include:
- Memoir: writing the truth, but how honest should I be?
Author and friend of the course Louise Beech joins Programme Director Chris Westoby for a frank discussion on the writing of her new memoir Daffodils, followed by a Q&A.
- Fantasy and Science Fiction: Writing the impossible and the improbable
This session with Creative Writing academic Ed Hurst will introduce students to the art of writing Fantasy and Science Fiction, exploring key elements such as magic, technology and the future.
- The flash that dazzles: writing flash fiction
How can we condense our ideas into short, resonant narratives? Online Tutor Claire Griffiths hosts an informative, interactive session on cutting to the heart of a story and leaving a lasting impression on your reader.
- What next?
Four former University of Hull MA students share their post-MA experiences of the different directions they took: finding and securing publication, embarking upon the route of self-publication, or applying for a PhD in Creative Writing.
Students will also have an opportunity to attend a writer's workshop and get feedback on some writing they're currently working on.
The event is a great opportunity to talk to lots of fellow writers, to meet people from other cohorts, see friends made online in person, and say hello to staff members.
